Interviewing Tips
Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
- Practice interviewing
- Research the company you are interviewing with
- Know the credentials required for the position
- Dress professionally
- Go alone; do not take friends or children
- Be 10 minutes early
- Turn off your cell phone
- Carry in only what you need for the interview
- Bring a resume copy
- Bring a list of references
- Be personable, smile, give a firm not crushing handshake
- Be aware of your non-verbal’s like eye contact and posture
- Don’t use slang
- Don’t make negative comments about present or former employers
- Don’t inquire about salary, vacations, benefits, bonuses or retirement at a first interview
- Don’t talk too much
- Thank the interviewer for their time
- Request a business card
- Send a thank you note
